Heartburn is an extremely common affliction that affects more than 20 million people is USA alone, on a daily basis. Statistics show that this number increases by three times for people who suffer from this problem at least once or twice a month.

What Is Persistent Heartburn?

In lay person's language the heartburn is an acid related digestive problem which feels like your heart is on fire. This is why the affliction is named 'heartburn', though it has nothing to do with the heart. Heartburn occurs when acid from the stomach finds its way back into the food pipe moving against its natural flow. Sometimes, the backflow is so powerful that you could even taste the acid in your mouth.

Most people experience heartburn off and on when they overeat during holidays or when they indulge in some particular foods such as fatty foods, deep fried foods and other similar hard to digest foods. When this problem becomes a daily routine and is chased away only with the help of medication, it is termed as persistent heartburn.

What Are The Causes Of Persistent Heartburn?

There are many, many things that cause the acidity of the stomach to rise and to get regurgitated. Some of the main causes for persistent heartburn are explained briefly hereunder. Pregnancy is a very common cause for this type of heartburn; this happens when the baby presses hard on the stomach in the late stages pushing its contents upwards.

If this happens once in while, let us say a few times per week, it is acceptable. However, if this occurs more often it could mean that the persistent heartburn is caused by more serious problems. Two most probable causes would be hiatal hernia and GERD (or gastro esophageal reflux disease).

Hiatal hernia is a condition where a segment of the stomach pushed through the diaphragm infringing the space which is meant for the esophagus alone. When this happens a lot of pressure is put on the lower esophageal valve which in turn malfunctions and allows the acid from the stomach return into the food pipe. It is not very clear why this condition develops; however, it is found mostly in people who are obese, pregnant, constipated, or addicted to smoking.

The GERD is a condition where the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) fails to work thereby allowing the acidic content of the stomach back into the food pipe. This problem is also known as reflux or in simple words, leaking back. This causes persistent heartburn which can be cured only with appropriate medical intervention.

Heartburn is a very common and often serious condition. It is most simply explained as being a burning and uncomfortable feeling of warmth behind the breastbone. (...)

Heartburn is a very common and often serious condition. It is most simply explained as being a burning and uncomfortable feeling of warmth behind the breastbone. Heartburn can often be so painful that the sufferer may believe that they are having a heart attack.

Palpitations and Heartburn

There is a connection between palpitations and heartburn, and that is that heartburn has been shown to play a role in palpitations. Palpitations of the heart are heartbeat sensations that make you feel as though your heart is racing or pounding very hard and very quickly. They can be incredibly frightening, and often people experiencing them even feel as though they are going to have a heart attack and die.

Treatment

When it comes to the treatment of palpitations and heartburn, the basic purpose here is to attack the heartburn itself because then the palpitations and heartburn that have developed as a result will be treated as well.

There are actually quite a few different treatment methods used for palpitations and heartburn, but one of the most effective is prescription medication. Even if only used for a short period of time medication can be very successful at relieving heartburn, and there are many options here both over the counter and prescription that can be used.

There are also many natural remedies for heartburn that can be used, the only problem with these being that they are usually not successful for serious cases of heartburn.

Making lifestyle changes is also going to be a very important step in treating palpitations and heartburn. Certain foods that you are eating may be triggering your heartburn, especially if you are eating a lot of hot and spicy foods. Fatty, deep fried foods should also be avoided and dairy and alcohol consumption should be limited.

Losing weight if you are overweight will also be helpful, and if you tend to experience worse heartburn at night a good idea is to prop a pillow up behind your head while you sleep so that the acids will be less likely to make their way up and into your esophagus. Even doing the seemingly simplest things such as avoiding tight clothes and tight belts will help with heartburn because you will not be squeezing your stomach as tightly, thereby reducing the amount of acids that make their way up from the stomach.

Heartburn can be dealt with quickly and successfully, as long as you are willing to make the right changes in your life.

Heartburn is a condition which is very common and which can be extremely painful. (...)

Heartburn is a condition which is very common and which can be extremely painful. It involves the upper digestive system and not the heart itself, although it can often feel as though your whole chest is burning and going to explode. Because the pain often radiates from the central chest region, if it is particularly bad some people will even confuse the symptoms of heartburn with a heart attack.

There are many known causes of heartburn, but more than anything it is a result of what the person is eating. Hot and spicy foods and greasy foods all contribute to the development of heartburn.

Nutritional Therapy for Heartburn

There are quite a few different options when it comes to treatments for heartburn. Nutritional therapy for heartburn is one of the most successful, and one of the safest as well. While many doctors prescribe medication for their patients who are dealing with heartburn, it is best to try the nutritional therapy for heartburn idea first, because it is more natural and much healthier for the body.

In nutritional therapy for heartburn, the patient is made to change their diet and lifestyle in general. They need to begin eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water which means at least six to eight glasses each day, and of course getting lots of exercise.

Even though it is typically the foods that the person is eating which is causing the heartburn, exercise is still very important to include because it helps the body to flush out toxins and helps the food to digest faster through the body as well, thereby taking away the stomach acids that otherwise may have made their way back up into the esophagus and caused the person heartburn.

It is important to discuss nutritional therapy for heartburn with your doctor because each case will be different and certain people may require more nutrition than others. This will especially depend on how healthy the person was to begin with, because obviously people who were not eating properly and not exercising to begin with will have to work a lot harder.

By living as generally healthy a lifestyle as possible, not only will you be avoiding conditions such as heartburn and indigestion, but as well you will be avoiding various other health problems as well.

For more serious cases of heartburn and indigestion medication may be necessary, but should only be taken temporarily because otherwise it may actually end up worsening the condition.

Heartburn is a painful condition that affects many people over the age of fifty. Younger people may also suffer from heartburn. Heartburn is sometimes mistaken for a heart attack because it can affect the chest cavity in the area of the heart. Heartburn can also cause a burning sensation in the throat. Other symptoms of heartburn include difficulty swallowing, a persistent cough and a bitter taste in the mouth. Nexium for heartburn has been welcomed by many people who suffer from this condition on two or more days in a week. Heartburn can be very disturbing, but it can be treated.

Any person suffering from these symptoms should first consult with their doctor. The doctor will often consult with the patient and order a series of tests to determine the cause of the problem. After the tests, the doctor will probably suggest some lifestyle changes. These changes will include eliminating certain foods from the diet that might cause the heartburn. The doctor might also recommend taking antacids for quick relief. Many doctors prescribe Nexium for heartburn when the test results are complete. Nexium for heartburn has been used for some time, and many people have solved their heartburn problems by taking this wonderful drug.

Nexium For Heartburn Heals The Pain

Nexium for heartburn has healing qualities for those with persistent heartburn. Nexium for heartburn is especially effective for those who have this condition due to acid reflux disease which can cause damage to the esophagus. This damage is caused when corrosive acid from the stomach enters the esophagus. The stomach is built to handle this acid while the esophagus is not. The damage done to the esophagus can be healed in four to eight weeks by using Nexium for heartburn.

Nexium for heartburn does not just relieve the symptoms, but it actually repairs the damage done to the esophagus. A doctor must prescribe Nexium for heartburn, and this doctor should monitor the use of this drug to make sure that this remedy works. Nexium for heartburn works to limit or control the amount of acid in the stomach that might move into the esophagus. Doctors usually prescribe this great drug and direct patients to take the medication one hour before a meal. Nexium for heartburn continues to be a successful cure for many people. The company that supplies Nexium for heartburn provides many services for those taking their pills. Patients should check the official Nexium website to look at their information on heartburn.

The people affected by heartburn can be very uncomfortable, and they should consult a doctor to make sure that they do not have a serious condition. (...)

The people affected by heartburn can be very uncomfortable, and they should consult a doctor to make sure that they do not have a serious condition. Most people can use natural heartburn remedies to correct this condition so they feel better all of the time. Natural heartburn remedies can make a great difference in the lives of those who end up with heartburn. The natural remedies that are suggested by the medical experts who have studied the condition should be studied and followed for good results. Heartburn is often caused by eating too much food or food that is rich or spicy.

The first natural heartburn remedy requires a change in diet and loss of weight if possible. Many foods can cause heartburn so a careful diet will include foods that will not cause this condition. People with heartburn should avoid foods that are spicy. This might mean giving up some of the delicious ethnic foods from India, Mexico or Thailand that are very spicy. Other foods that might cause heartburn include rich or creamy foods. Rich desserts that include lots of cream are often the cause of heartburn. Chocolate desserts are also a possible cause of heartburn so people with this problem should eliminate this delicious treat from their diet.

Natural Heartburn Remedies Require Changes In Lifestyles

If natural heartburn remedies do not work, there are also some medicines that will help, but it is worth a try to see if the natural heartburn remedies work first. Eliminating food triggers is a first step, but there are other natural heartburn remedies that may do the trick. People may eliminate heartburn with a very simple and natural heartburn remedy by not eating close to their bedtime. This often eliminates the heartburn that occurs at night. People might also eliminate heartburn by raising the head of their bed to keep acid from flowing out of the stomach into the esophagus.

Another simple natural heartburn remedy for smokers requires that they quit this habit. The nicotine in cigarettes has a detrimental effect on the esophagus and kicking this habit could reduce or eliminate heartburn. The juice from the aloe vera plant is a natural heartburn remedy that has proved to be successful for some people. There is no scientific research to prove that this natural heartburn remedy works, but there are many people who believe that this soothes their esophagus and relieves their discomfort. Stress is suspected to trigger heartburn so people might try relaxation or meditation techniques to reduce the stress of a hectic lifestyle.

When stomach acid backs up into your esophagus, you feel a burning pain. A trapdoor of muscular tissue usually keeps the stomach acid where it belongs. (...)

When stomach acid backs up into your esophagus, you feel a burning pain. A trapdoor of muscular tissue usually keeps the stomach acid where it belongs. Large meals as well as certain kinds of foods lead to heartburn — when the trapdoor opens and allows the acid to leak upwards. Best way to douse these flames is to use medicinal herbs for treating heartburn rather than medications which may at times aggravate heartburn.

Douse the Flames

Dandelion a common weed found in the backyard which is a native American medicine as well as used in traditional Chinese medicine. A good use of dandelion is the dandelion tea. Herbalists recommend adding hot boiling water to a mixture of both leaves (fresh or dried) and flowers for a bitter dandelion tea which has immense curative properties. An alternative to this, if dandelion doesn't agree with your system, is milk thistle found in abundance in the Mediterranean region.

Certain medicinal herbs for treating heartburn like chamomile and meadowsweet help to decrease acidity levels in the stomach. Linseed, probably one of the oldest medicinal crop known to human species for its curative properties and therapeutic values is increasingly becoming popular all over the world. Besides its many medicinal usages, it is known for its cure in digestive and respiratory ailments.

Herbs such as flax, fenugreed (seeds), slippery elm, help to soak up excess stomach acid. Douse the flames of heartburn with a preparation of herbs prepared as a tea used since time immemorial to soothe stomach pains of babies. A preparation of chamomile, lemon balm, catnip, fennel and slipper elm brewed in to a tea is a soothing drink.

Other medicinal herbs for treating heartburn prepared as a tea is gingerroot. Add freshly grated gingerroot to one cup of boiling water, steep for ten minutes, and drink. Long used to quell the nausea caused by motion sickness, ginger helps to relax the muscles that line the wals of the esophagus so that stomach acids don't get pushed upwards.

Tea made from anise, caraway, or fennel seed are some medicinal herbs for treating heartburn according to herbalists. Add two teaspoons of any of them to one cup of boiling water steep for 10 minutes, strain, and drink. Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine, the traditional medicine of India, prescribe teas made of crushed cinnamon or cardamom as medicinal herbs for treating heartburn. Add one teaspoon of either crushed or powdered herb to one cup boiling water, steep, strain, and drink.

When you feel you are under the attack of heartburn, you would most like reach out for an antacid for relief. (...)

When you feel you are under the attack of heartburn, you would most like reach out for an antacid for relief. However, with time you realize that you are rather becoming addicted to this remedy which is definitely not a very good thing. At this juncture you would start looking for alternative remedies.

How To Get Rid Of Heartburn - Some Simple Alternatives

Before you learn how to get rid of heartburn, you need to know what causes this problem. There are many things that cause heartburn.

Basically this is a condition that happens because for one or other reason acid from the stomach leaks back into the esophagus. Many people worsen the symptoms by lying down when due to gravity more acid spills back into the food pipe further aggravating the heartburn. Therefore, never lie down when you suffer from heartburn.

In case you do not want to have an antacid tablet, you could take a leisure stroll if it was possible or drink a cup of fennel tea. If nothing else is handy, simply chew on a peppermint. You could also drink a glass of cold milk or water which would dilute the acid that has made its way into the food pipe.

Find Out What Causes Heartburn For You And You Will Know How To Get Rid Of Heartburn

Prevention is always better than cure; hence, instead of searching how to get rid of heartburn, it is better that you take measures to prevent it altogether. This is why it is important that you know what causes heartburn in the first place.

All citrus fruits are found to cause heartburn; so are tomatoes, most of the berries, coffee, tea, aerated drinks, alcohol, excess consumption of deep fried foods, animal fat, spicy pickles and the like. If you are prone to develop heartburn, you need to learn to eat in moderation.

Overeating is known to cause heartburn as well. You should rather eat five to six small meals than two or three large ones. In order to zero on the exact foods that cause you heartburn, you need to keep a notebook ready and as soon as you feel this problem developing, try to recall what you ate and write it down. In this way, you would very soon be able to identify all those foods that you should avoid.

How To Get Rid Of Heartburn - Instant Remedies

There are many herbal prescriptions that can give immediate relief when you suffer from heartburn. Some of the most popular (and effective ones) are peppermint oil or peppermint candy, saunf chewed slowly along with a pinch of sugar, half a cup of sugarless green tea, a few tablespoon of refrigerated yoghurt and so on.

Heartburn can range from being so mild that it is hardly noticeable to being so severe that the sufferer may not even be able to get out of bed sometimes. (...)

Heartburn can range from being so mild that it is hardly noticeable to being so severe that the sufferer may not even be able to get out of bed sometimes. One of the biggest questions that people have about heartburn is how long can heartburn last. When it comes to answering the question of how long can heartburn last, it really depends on how severe the condition is.

The symptoms of heartburn will be largely determining on how long can heartburn last, and it can be frequent and may last several weeks or just come and go on an irregular basis. Because the symptoms may appear now and again rather than constantly, they may be experienced for a long time before a decision is actually made to provide treatment.

Treatment

Anyone wondering how long heartburn can last really needs to focus on the type of treatment that they are going to use. Over the counter drugs are often used, and these work by neutralizing the stomach acids, thereby reducing the amount that may make its way back up into the esophagus.

Antacids are commonly used and typically provide relief almost immediately. These active compounds buffer the accumulated acid in the stomach and this helps reduce or eliminate the burn that is felt in the esophagus.

How long heartburn can last is really going to be up to the sufferer and how willing they are going to be to make the necessary changes in their life. By living as generally healthy a lifestyle as possible not only will you be treating your heartburn and preventing it from recurring in the future, but you will also be avoiding a variety of other health problems.

Lifestyle Changes

It is important to make a big change in diet first and foremost. You need to begin eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day and getting lots of exercise. Even just getting out for a half hour run each day will benefit you enormously, and so it is vital that you try to stay as active as you can.

Heartburn can be dealt with successfully as long as you are willing to make the right changes and stick to it. Your doctor will be able to discuss the treatment methods that are available more with you as well as perform a few routine tests in order to determine which are going to work best for you.

Heartburn is a condition where reflux of acid from the stomach causes pain. The pain is mostly centered on the lowest part of the esophagus but may sometimes extend to as far as the chest and can also affect the jaw, neck and throat. There are many home remedies for heartburn as well as chemical based medications. These home remedies for heartburn can really help to alleviate the pain associated with heartburn and some can also reduce the risk of other heartburn attacks.

Preventing Heartburn

There are many cases of heartburn where the position of the person is responsible for it. Usually, lying down after a big meal or bending over after a big meal can cause heartburn. Always bear in mind after having a meal that it is not advisable to move around too much. Our parents have often told us not to run around after eating and there seems to be some truth in their wisdom.

It is also a good idea not to eat too much. Having a full stomach can cause the acid to rise very near the esophagus and eventually contribute to heartburn. These preventive measures will ensure that you will not need the home remedies for heartburn that are coming next.

If heartburn has already set in, these home remedies for heartburn can prove effective for you.

Ginger is one of the more effective home remedies for heartburn and has proven to effectively manage the acid in the stomach to a point where the pain will be reduce. These home remedies for heartburn can be had in capsule form and you can also try to pound one small piece of ginger root and just let it languish in your mouh while swallowing the juices from it. One of the more amazing home remedies for heartburn is apple cider vinegar.

When you read heartburn versus pneumonia it might seem a little surprising, as these two conditions are seemingly unrelated. For a long time this was the opinion of the experts as well, i.e. that there was no connection between these two. However, the coincidental development of pneumonia in patients who were administered heartburn drugs led to some specific research studies to find out whether there were any links.

What Do The Reports Say On Heartburn Versus Pneumonia?

These studies threw up some interesting findings. It was found that a good number of patients who were treated for chronic heartburn sooner or later developed pneumonia. The cause for this peculiarity was quite obvious once it was understood. The heartburn medication reduced the acid formation in the stomach, which in turn allowed germs to live longer. These germs traveled upwards and attacked the lungs causing pneumonia.

You will find that children and old people usually fall into the high-risk group for this condition because they have weaker constitutions. Those who have a history of (or presently suffer from) any type of lung disease or asthma seem to develop pneumonia faster than other healthy patients. It was also found that those who posses a weak immune system fall prey to this disease faster.

Some Important Facts On Heartburn Versus Pneumonia

Doctors who treat people for heartburn are today more aware of this possibility and hence are watchful for any symptoms that would indicate the onset of pneumonia. Patients are also advised during heartburn treatment to pay close attention to any symptoms that would point to pneumonia so it could be countered before it becomes a full blown chronic condition.

Check out for any of the following symptoms – fever of 101 degrees and higher, persistent and stubborn cough which does not get abated in spite of strong anti-cough medication; chest pain when you breathe in deeply on one side or both, sudden and abrupt shortness of breath for no apparent cause, etc. In most cases, fever becomes a common factor plus any other of the above mentioned symptoms.

The studies on heartburn versus pneumonia showed that only when people took medication haphazardly that this problem developed. In most cases where patients followed closely the instructions of their medical practitioner and did not abuse the heartburn medication, nothing untoward happened. On the other hand, when this medication is taken for longer than required periods, it tends to suppress the immune system and the incidence of pneumonia rises.

The link of heartburn versus pneumonia is still under study; however, at present it is obvious that it is important for those who undertake treatment for heartburn to keep a close watch on any possible pneumonia symptoms.
